Our Mission

We strive to be intentional advocates for progressive change at Yale, in New Haven, and in Connecticut. We fight for candidates and policies that advance equal justice, human dignity, and the empowerment of all people, while resisting attacks on our values. We embrace students of all backgrounds who want to take action and join a diverse community of dedicated progressives.

"[The] common room of Yale's Branford College... is becoming a regular stop on the campaign trail for candidates seeking statewide office." -New Haven Independent, February 16, 2010

We campaign for candidates who will stand up for progressive values on the local, statewide, and national levels. In the past, we have helped elect New Haven Ward 1 Alder Sarah Eidelson, Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and President Obama. In the 2016 Election, we helped Senator Maggie Hassan win her Senate Race and secured the Connecticut State Senate seat in District 17,、 represented by Joe Crisco.

We run issue campaigns, communicate with state legislators, and travel to Hartford to testify on behalf of legislation that promotes equality and justice for all. Our efforts were critical to repealing the death penalty in Connecticut, mandating that all colleges and universities in our state have affirmative consent policies, and in closing a loophole that allowed rapists to claim parental rights.

Every Monday evening, we host speakers from a variety of reputable progressive organizations, campaigns, publications, and government bureaus to promote political dialogue on campus. During the 2015-2016 school year, Black Lives Matter leader DeRay Mckesson (pictured above), Governor Malloy, and former National Security Advisor to President Obama Tom Donilon. In the fall of 2016, we hosted Bernie Symone Sanders, the National Press Secretary for Senator Bernie Sanders, and Josh Malina, the start of West Wing, among others. Stay tuned to see who'll be joining us in the upcoming semester!
