Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - Democracy Fund Coalition: Final Steps for Reform
Wednesday, February 22 -- 5:30 p.m. -- City Hall, 2nd Floor.
This was an historic year for CT. One year ago, as former Gov. Rowland was entering prison for placing private special interests ahead of the public good, state lawmakers were at last taking up the public’s call for meaningful campaign finance reform. Today, CT has approved sweeping reforms of state elections and provided authorization for cities like New Haven to experiment with such reform. With your support, we have fought for such authorization for the past three years. Now, we are bringing the reform debate back to New Haven, and we look forward to introducing the Democracy Fund to the Board of Alderman this month.
In preparation for the New Haven legislative campaign, we invite concerned citizens and supporters of the Democracy Fund to join us for a kick-off meeting this Wednesday at City Hall, hosted by Democracy Fund chair and president of the Board of Aldermen, Carl Goldfield. Pizza and drinks will be provided, and the event is open to the public.
The meeting will include an overview of the proposed Democracy Fund ordinance and a discussion of legislative and grassroots strategy to win the reform campaign. Your feedback and ideas are warmly welcomed; please RSVP if you are able to attend. We invite you to learn more at http://www.democracyfund.com and hope that you will join us in this final exciting step toward reform!
